Images Welfare Activities and Schemes

To attain the broad aims and objectives of Labour Welfare the fund of the Board shall be applied in connection with any of the activities prescribed by the West Bengal Labour Welfare Fund Act, 1974, such as (i) Community and social education centers including reading rooms and libraries, (ii) Games and sports, (iii) Excursion, tours, and holiday homes, (iv) Entertainment and other forms of recreation, (v) Corporate activities of social nature, (vi) Home industries and subsidiary occupations for woman and unemployed persons etc. The key activities and schemes carried out by the Board are as follows:

Cultural Functions. Sports and Games

Labour Welfare activities are carried out round the year through the Labour Welfare Centers. Various cultural functions and competitions, quiz contests, sit and draw competitions, annual sports and games, volley ball tournament, football tournament, carom tournament, badminton tournament etc. are organized by the Labour Welfare Centers at Labour Welfare Centre level and at zonal level for recreation and entertainment of the workers and their family members. The Board provides different recreational and sports materials to the Labour Welfare Centers, such as daily newspapers, magazines, t.v., carom board, football, volley ball, table tennis, physical fitness equipment etc. for the workers and their dependents.

Special Programmes

Zonal level cultural functions, games and sports of the workers and their family members are held at South Bengal and North Bengal zones. "May Day" is celebrated every year at Rabindra Sadan, Kolkata and at North Bengal with the active participation of the workers and their family members. In this function awards are conferred to the winners in different cultural and sports competitions organized by the Board.

Skill based Computer Training and Vocational Training

Training in sewing and cutting is imparted by the trained instructors in different Labour Welfare Centers. The trainees, who stand 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the examination at the end of the training course, are awarded with sewing machines. Computer training programme known as Lab-Web training programme have been started in 7 Model Labour Welfare Centers in technical collaboration with WEBEL Informatics Ltd. (A Government of West Bengal Undertaking). The training programme in the Labour Welfare Centers is given by expert agencies. The objective of Lab-Web training programme is to provide quality computer training to wards of the contributing workers at a subsidized fee. The Board reimburses 50% of the course fee to each such ward of the contributing worker. At the end of the course, certificate of computer training is issued to each successful candidate jointly by the Board and Webel.
