The West Bengal Labour Welfare Board is a statutory and autonomous body under Department of Labour, Government of West Bengal. The Board started its journey from 1st July, 1976. The Board administers the West Bengal Labour Welfare Fund and promotes welfare amongst the working class community of the state of West Bengal. The Board collects contributions from the employees and the employers of the establishments and other statutory revenues under the West Bengal Labour Welfare Fund Act, 1974. The Board with the fund, so collected, implements various Labour Welfare Schemes for the benefits of workers who are paying contribution to the Labour Welfare Fund. In addition to implementation of Labour Welfare Schemes, different types of welfare activities such as outdoor and indoor games, competition in games and sports, cultural and educational functions are organized and days of national importance and other special days are celebrated with the active participation of hundreds and hundreds of workers, their family members, and others. The Welfare Schemes and activities are implemented and carried out mainly through the Labour Welfare Centers set up in different industrial areas of this state. The Board operates holiday homes wherein the workers can stay at a very nominal fee and enjoy holidays and weekend with their family members. The Board maintains several auditoria for the workers where they can and do hold social and cultural functions and celebrate festivals. The Board is striving to extend welfare amenities to more and more workers particularly the underprivileged ones keeping abreast with growing industrialization and burgeoning economy of the state.
FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT IN THE NORTH BENGAL REGION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY ORGANISED. ABOUT 60 TEA-GARDENS HAVE PARTICAPATED IN THE TOURNAMENT FROM DOOARS, TERRAI AND HILL ZONE. THE FINAL GAME WAS PLAYED IN THE PLAYGROUND OF DAGAPUR TEA-GARDEN ON 25/07/2014 AND SIGNIFICANTS NUMBER OF SPECTATORS ENJOYED THE DAY LONG TOURNAMENT FROM QUARTER-FINAL STAGE TO FINAL GAME & THE TROPHY WAS WON BY MARRYVIEW TEA ESTATE.
FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT IN THE SOUTH BENGAL REGION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY ORGANISED. EIGHT INDUSTRIAL UNITS HAVE PLAYED IN THE DIFFERENT PLAYGROUNDS FROM QUARTER FINAL STAGE. THE FINAL GAME WAS PLAYED IN THE PLAYGROUND AT KHARDAH, NORTH 24-PARGANAS ON 27/06/2014. SRI PURNENDU BOSE, HON’BLE MINISTER-IN-CHARGE, LABOUR DEPT. & CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD, SRI SAUGATO ROY, M.P., EMINENT FOOTBALLER SRI SANAT SETH AND SRI SUBRATA BHATTACHARJEE GRACED THE OCCASSION AND AWARDED THE WINNERS AND RUNNERS-UP. IN THE FINAL GAME THE TROPHY WAS WON BY TRACTORS INDIA LIMITED.
VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT HAS BEEN CONDUCTED IN DURGAPUR ZONEON 03/04/2014. 8 (EIGHT) INDUSTRIAL UNITS OF DURGAPUR REGION PARTICAPATED IN THE SAID VOLLEYBALL COMPETITION. DURGAPUR STEEL PLANTS HAVE WON THE TITLE.
